Third generation officer Micah Wallace of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office with his father Jason Wallace.

Micah Wallace of DeMotte was sworn in as a third-generation member of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday. His father, Jason Wallace, is retiring as the department’s captain. And his grandfather, James Wallace, served as the county sheriff in the 1990s and the early 2000s. “I watched my father and grandfather do it,” Wallace said. “It seemed like a rewarding career for them.”

Wallace was born in Valparaiso but raised primarily in DeMotte. He has already served as a deputy of the Benton County Sheriff’s Department for a little over two years. It was always his intention to work in Jasper County, but he could not do so while his father was in the department. His brother, Jesse, is a deputy in the Newton County Sheriff’s Department. The two younger men, and their grandfather, are all former U.S. Marines. Read the full story in the print edition or by subscribing to the e-edition.
